Online Orientation and Support Services for Online Master's Students

Canvas Course (Modules)

Picture

A Growing Need...

An online graduate program places expectations and resource demands on students, faculty and staff, departments, colleges, and universities.  In addition, during the last decade, the increased enrollment of online education has also placed demands on IT support services.
As a larger percentage of students became either hybrid or exclusively online students, there is a need to adequately orient these students as these expectations and demands, in many aspects, differ from those of an on-campus student.

Therefore, a need exists to create a single access point of sourced materials using a learning management system to orient incoming online graduate-seeking students to department and university expectations and processes while also providing support resources throughout their program.

Based on existing literature, an online student orientation and support services should encompass the following components:

  1. Data
  2. Digital strategy
  3. Individual Student Experience
  4. Social engagement
